Salmon-Crested Cockatoo
Cacatua moluccensis
Physical Characteristics
- These birds have white feathers tinted with soft pink. The underside of the flight
feathers and tail is tinged with yellowish-salmon. The broad, white, rounded crest has
deep salmon-red inner feathers. The bill, legs and feet are black. The male has a black
iris and the female has a reddish-brown iris.
- Size of average adult
- length: 20 inches form head to tail
Diet
- Wild: seeds, grain and fruit
Behavior
- Flight is usually long glides after a few wing beats
- Nest in hollow trees, place wood chips in the hole
- Reproduction
- clutch size: 2 - 3 white eggs
- incubation: 25 days
- both parents help to incubate, young fledge at 3 months

- Habitat: lowland forests and wooded mountain slopes
- Distribution: southern Moluccan Islands in Indonesia
- Status: CITES Appendix I
