Adventure Backpacks

Exploring the Zoo has never been so exciting! Usage of these inquiry-based packs is FREE thanks to a Howard Hughes Medical Institute grant. We have packs with everything you need to complete investigations throughout the Pride of the Plains or North America. Missions can be downloaded before your Zoo visit and packs can be checked out upon arrival Mon–Fri at the Cargill Learning Center. One pack serves four students. Packs are available for kindergarten, grades 1–2, grades 3–4, and grades 5–6. All packs are aligned to Kansas State Teaching Standards. Pre-registration is required a minimum of two weeks in advance of your visit to the Zoo.

A teacher pack includes:

* Animal artifacts
* Fact packet
* Animal track rubbing plates

A chaperone packet includes: (we suggest 1 chaperone per 10 students)

* Answers to applicable questions
* Fascinating facts to share with the students

North America Adventure Packs include:

* Measurement tools
* Observation techniques
* Inquiry-based activities

Pride of the Plains Adventure Packs Include:

* Measurement tools
* Observation techniques
* Inquiry-based missions
* PLUS orienteering tools

Missions, Teacher Keys and Chaperone Information sheets are available in the Downloads box on the right. Choose either Pride of the Plains or North America then find your grade level. Good luck and have fun!
