You're Never too Young
... to learn about the wonders of nature. Through play and interactive learning your tiny tot will be introduced to animals from around the world. All Early Childhood programs are designed with parent participation in mind. If you're looking for activities and learning adventures for little ones age newborn - kindergarten, you'll find it all right here at the Zoo!

Early Childhood Learning Adventures
Do all monkeys swing by their tails? Do lemurs really leap? Join us on a learning adventure you'll never forget. How is a mother frog similar or different than a mother wallaroo? Find out the answers to these questions and more through fun interactive learning and play. We have Early Childhood learning adventures for children ages newborn - kindergarten.
Space is limited; online registration is required. Each child and adult must have an individual ticket for class. A minimum of two tickets must be purchased for each class, one child and one adult. A ticket is required for all people over the age of six months, including adults. Space is limited. Tickets will be scanned at the door. All classes take place rain or shine. All reservations are final. No cancellations, refunds, rain checks or exchanges; tickets will not be replaced if lost, stolen or unused.
Children age 12-23 months will have a first-hand experience of the wonders of animals. Each 30-minute program provides interactive learning and an animal visitor. Adult attendance is required. Classes are designed for adult interaction with children. Classes take place from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. or 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. All classes are held in the Cargill Learning Center.
Each 45-minute program includes interactive learning and an animal visitor, providing children two and three years with a glimpse of wildlife up close. Adult attendance is required. Classes are designed for adult interaction with children. All classes meet in Cargill Learning Center unless otherwise noted. Classes take place from 10:00 a.m.to 10:45 a.m. or 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
Learning your ABCs has never been so exciting!
Children age 3, 4 and 5 will love visiting the Zoo on a regular basis and discovering their core learning needs with an animal theme. Students will also have regular interactions with the Zoo’s “animal ambassadors” in the classroom. Parents will enjoy the small class sizes with a teacher child ratio of at least one teacher for every eight students.
Animal Tales Preschool at Sedgwick County Zoo strives to be a “green” preschool by using environmentally-friendly materials and integrating conservation techniques in the classroom. Students will learn the importance of reduce, reuse, recycle in a fun, hands-on fashion every day. Classes will meet in the Desert Room at the Cargill Learning Center. The Desert Room was specifically designed for preschool students with vivid colors and a fun animal mural. There is also a special child-sized bathroom located inside the classroom.
There is a maximum of 15 students so call today to for more information. Classes run September through early May.

Each 90-minute program for children four years through kindergarten includes interactive learning, a Zoo walk, story time and a take-home craft. Adult attendance is required. Classes are designed for adult interaction with children. All classes begin and conclude in the Cargill Learning Center. Classes take place from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on specific days.
Bring your youngsters age newborn through first grade to the Zoo for this 90-minute class. Each class includes a lesson, craft, Zoo experience, bedtime story and snack. Kids are encouraged to attend in their pajamas. Adult attendance is required. Classes are designed for adult interaction with children. Classes meet from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. All classes begin and conclude in the Cargill Learning Center.
Bring your child age twelve months through six years on 60-minute learning safari. Adult attendance is required. Classes are designed for adult interaction with children. All classes begin and conclude in the Cargill Learning Center. Classes meet from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Get Into Nature
Each 60-minute class will include structured and non-structured nature play time. The program is open to all ages. Adult attendance is required. Classes begin and conclude in the Cargill Learning Center. Please dress for the weather. Classes take place from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Fun and interactive educational activities for children 3-5 years old take place in the Cargill Learning Center. Sedgwick County Zoo, Exploration Place, Wichita WATER Center, and other area museums participate to bring you educational activities each month. These free programs do not require online registration. Children must be accompanied by a participating adult.
Each program is offered from 10:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m. on the 4th Tuesday of the month.
Hours of Operation
